A Woman of Valor | Eshet Chayil Art Print
Eshet Chayil, traditionally translated as “A Woman of Valor,” is the famous poem from Proverbs 31 that is recited on Friday night Shabbat.
For generations, the poem has often been read as praise for a woman's domestic labor. Read closely, though, this woman is doing far more. She buys and sells property, manages workers, trades goods, makes clothing, feeds her household, gives to those in need, and conducts business with confidence.
Inspired by the flowing lines of Art Nouveau, this papercut reimagines Eshet Chayil as a portrait of a competent, capable, ambitious woman whose world extends well beyond the home.
This 16 × 16 inch giclée print reproduces my original hand-cut papercut. It makes a meaningful Jewish gift for a bat mitzvah, graduation, birthday, or other milestone.
